Started by Highlander Beer in 2010 as a celebration for the 100 year anniversary of the original release of Highlander Beer, the festival now continues on annually with Highlander Beer as a primary sponsor and organizer of the event. Celtic Festival Missoula is a cultural event to celebrate the meeting of the great Celtic traditions in the Northern Rockies of Montana, featuring Celtic music, dance and food. To date, it has been on the last Saturday in July at Caras Park in Missoula. The festival also features Irish Road Bowling, an ancient sport where teams of two toss a 28 ounce metal ball over a 1 ½ mile road course. Akin to golf in some manner, the team who crosses the finish line with the lowest score is the winner.
This festival gave locals and tourists a taste of Celtic music, food, dancing and sport. The musical entertainment at Celtic Festival Missoula in 2011 featured the headliner band, The Young Dubliners, a fantastic Celtic-based rock 'n roll band, whose live Celtic-inspired concerts are known to bring unrivaled spirit and energy to any event. Those in attendance were also delighted by performances from An Dochas and the Haran Dancers, the Celtic Dragon Pipe Band, Malarkay and Irish storyteller, Michael O’Malley. The festival is a true family event, with a KidZone featuring Celtic Zumba dancing, arts and crafts, and performances by four Irish storytellers, with tales designed for the little ones.
Come join us in July 2012 for the Celtic Festival Missoula. It’s a grand day. Come enjoy a Highlander Beer and find the spirit of the old Celtic world in downtown Missoula. Sláinte !
